Join us for an immersive 6-week clay course where you'll design and create beautiful, functional pottery pieces. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this course will guide you through creating unique ceramic items, from plates to teapots, and the final steps of glazing. With personalised instruction and all materials included, you'll leave with a collection of handmade pottery to treasure.

Course Structure:

Week 1: Plate Design and Construction
Learn the basics of slab-building and create your own personalised ceramic plate.
Focus on shaping, smoothing, and adding decorative details to make your piece unique.

Week 2: Lantern Making
Create a beautiful ceramic lantern using slab-building and cut-out techniques.
Explore ways to incorporate texture and patterns to make your lantern both functional and decorative.

Week 3: Incense Holder
Design and craft an incense holder using coiling and sculpting methods.
Experiment with different shapes and styles to suit your personal aesthetic.

Week 4: Teapot or Cup and Saucer
Choose between making a charming teapot or a matching cup and saucer set.
Learn complex techniques like handle making, spout design, and joining multiple components to create functional pottery.

Weeks 5 & 6: Glazing and Finishing
Explore a variety of glazing techniques to add colour and finishing touches to your creations.

Understand the firing process and prepare your pieces for their final transformation.
In Week 6, final touches will be applied, and your pieces will be ready for kiln firing.

Each week, your child will step into a world of hands-on creativity with exciting, no-tech art projects! Under the guidance of our talented instructor Isobel, they'll explore a wide range of art and craft techniques including:
🎨 Painting & Drawing – Experiment with colors and different brush strokes, create abstract or realistic art, and practice sketching fun themes.
✂️ Papercraft & Collage – Make 3D paper sculptures, mosaics, and layered collages using vibrant materials.
🖼️ Clay & Sculpture – Build and mold their own masterpieces with air-dry clay or other materials.
🧶 Textile Art – Learn to create fun, fabric-based crafts like felt creatures, simple sewing projects, or yarn weavings.
🍂 Nature Art – Collect leaves, flowers, and other natural elements to craft beautiful eco-art projects.

**Weekly Teen Fine Art Classes**

 
Our Weekly Teen Fine Art Classes are designed to inspire and guide you in developing your artistic skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. 

Each week, our experienced fine art tutors introduce a new technique, giving you the chance to explore and practice during the session. Whether you're just starting out or already experienced, you'll have the opportunity to develop the featured technique or focus on personal projects with tailored guidance and support.
 
Suitable for all skill levels and abilities, these classes are perfect for ages 11-17. Classes are planned in termly blocks to build on prior learning each week, providing a structured and progressive approach while encouraging creative freedom. For this reason, students are encouraged to enrol and begin their art education at the start of the school terms. Blocks are sold on a half-term basis, following the Chester City academic year, with lessons working out at just £14 each. This fee includes all materials and use of equipment during the lessons. Students are grouped by age to ensure an appropriate learning environment.
 
We recognise that every artist is unique, and we strive to bring out the creative potential in every student. Our goal is to challenge and support each individual, helping them work towards their personal artistic goals and build an impressive portfolio they can be proud of. Plus, it's a great opportunity to make new friends in our creative and friendly environment.

You also have the option to work through your Arts Awards on this course. if you wish to do this please select the correct ticket at check out.  You can also purchase the art award courses in full and secure your place on the consecutive modules to complete the course. Teens working towards Silver will be required to start the lesson 30 minutes earlier each week.

Interested in trying out the pottery wheel? Join us for our potting wheel experience to get a feel for working with clay and using the wheel. Our expert instructors will guide you through the process and help you create your own unique piece of pottery.
 
During this session, You will learn how to wedge – prepare the clay – as well as centre – secure the clay on the wheel – and throw – pulling up the walls of the clay into a cylinder and form a basic shape, and finally trim it to finish. You will throw multiple pots and can choose one to be glazed and fired, which will be ready to collect within 3-4 weeks.

It is working to the same standard to a GCSE and is designed to help young people aged 11-18 deepen their engagement with the arts, develop their leadership skills, and gain a deeper understanding of creative careers.

Level 2 Qualification

For Silver Arts Award, young people develop their arts skills and knowledge and lead an arts project to achieve a Level 2 qualification. Young people build an arts portfolio to track their experiences and show their development, creating and collecting evidence along the way.
 
Silver Arts Award is designed for ages 14 -25yrs, but is open to anyone aged over 11.

Silver arts award  -  42 lessons - £700

The Silver Arts Award is a Level 2 Qualification, working at the same standard as a A* GCSE! It takes Bronze a step further and students do work more independently to produce their own inspired art! Students must have completed the Bronze arts award or equivalent level prior to enrolling onto the silver.​

This bundle covers the cost of the Silver Arts Award course.  These run on Saturdays afternoons and Tuesday evenings.  Sessions are 2 hours long.

Silver Arts Award - 7 Module Bundle

The Explore Arts award challenges students to explore a variety of art and medium over a course of 3 projects, inspiring students with artists and helping them identify what they like!

Explore arts award - minimum of 18 lessons - £240
Explore allows students to delve a little deeper into the types of art that they enjoy, whilst still learning new art forms. They are taught skills to evaluate their work and make choices in their art, whilst learning about new artists and being inspired! Suitable for ages 5 - 18yrs
